Abstract:

This report is a review of the extent of unmet need for family planning in 55 developing countries. Estimates are based on DHS carried out in the last decade of the twentieth century. Multiple surveys conducted within the same country permit the assessment of levels and trends of unmet need for most countries. The report also extends the analysis of unmet need by disaggregating it by whether contraception was used in the past and by whether there is an intention to use a method in the future.
