Abstract: Knowledge of HIV status can be an important deterrent to the transmission of the virus. Yet in Africa, a large proportion of individuals are unaware of their HIV status. We analyze the demand for voluntary HIV testing. We focus on the relationship between condom use and voluntary HIV testing. In doing so, we observe how different degrees of condom use are associated with HIV testing. Results show that condom use is complementary to voluntary HIV testing. We also find the demand for HIV testing diminishes with the consistency of condom use.
